Robert Duncan
Died 29th September 1849
Above: Roberts burial record
Robert Duncan was born in 1843 and his birth was registered in October of that year. We couldn’t find a baptism record for him, so don’t know who his parents were
We do know from Rawlinson’s report that Robert was living in Monkhouse’s Square, off Clayport when he died from cholera aged only 6, on 29th September 1849. Robert was buried in a mass grave at the rear of St Michaels Church along with so many other victims.
Another family from Monkhouse’s Square, the Black Family, suffered the tragic loss of a mother and two children (see their record in this file).
Looking on the 1851 census for the Black family, we found a Duncan family nearby. These were, Hannah a widow age 64, her son Robert age 42, her daughter Mary age 22, and Frederick, a grandson age 4 months. We suspect they were related in some way to Robert, but can’t prove it.
