    The situation with regard to digital images of photographs is more complex.  Copyright rests originally with the photographer, and then with their estate for 70 years from the end of the year in which they died. In many cases the identity of the original photographer is not known, so  the copyright status of the image cannot be established.

    The images and text published on this website are for private non-commercial use only, not for copying, reproduction or publication. Private use includes, however inclusion by a student at an educational institution in an academic dissertation or thesis.
