Mary Joicey
Died 23rd September 1849
According to the death notices in The Newcastle Courant, Mary Joicey, 28 was the wife of William Joicey, a mason.
The only William Joicey we could find of about the right age was baptised on the 18th September 1808 in Longbenton, making him 13 years older than Mary.
William was the second son of George and Jane Jowcey. His older brother was James was born in the same place in 1806.
Since we couldn’t find a marriage for Mary and William we could not find out anything else about Mary. She died, aged 28 on September 23rd, the first day of the cholera outbreak. In total 12 deaths were recorded on that day. Along with many of those from the 23rd, she buried in a mass grave at the rear of Saint Michael’s Church, two days later.
