Mary Carr
Died 16th October 1849
Above: Marys burial record
Mary Carr died on 16th October, towards the end of the cholera outbreak.
She was buried on the18th October in a mass grave at the rear of St. Michael’s Church. Above is a copy of the entry in the burial register, from which her age was misread as 46 in some records.
Rawlinson’s report says she lived in Dispensary Street but perhaps she died in the Dispensary (Hospital) located on that street, and actually lived in Canongate, as on other records.
She was given the title Miss Mary Carr in her obituary in the Newcastle newspaper so we believe that she had not married, but frustratingly we know nothing else about her.
