George Taylor
Died September 28th 1849
George was 21 when he fell victim to the 1849 cholera outbreak. He must have been born, therefore about 1828. Since this was pre 1837, when it became a legal requirement to register a birth, if he was not baptised, there would be no official record of his birth.
He could have been the son of George and Mary Taylor of Denwick, or John and Ann Taylor of Embleton, or anywhere else further afield. It is not currently possible to say.
His death was recorded in the Bishops Transcripts for Alnwick, and we know from this that he was living in Clayport and that he was 21.
George was on the Robert Rawlinson’s list of cholera deaths in the official inquiry, but not in the newspaper obituaries. We think he may have been a temporary resident.
