Thomasine Grey
Died 11th October 1849
Thomasine Grey was aged 70 when she died.
According to the Newcastle Courant for the week after her death, on October 11th, 1849, Thomasine was a married woman. It is surprising how common the name Thomasine/ Thomasin/ Thomason was in the 1770s when she was born. So we were unable to trace her in any detail.
According to Rawlinson’s report she was living in Union Court, Clayport Street but she was actually in the Dispensary (ie Alnwick cottage hospital of the time) when she died according to the above burial record, listed as “Thomason” Grey.
She was buried in one of the mass graves at the rear of St Michael’s Church on the following day.
If you have any more information about Thomasine, or any of the cholera dead, we would love to hear from you. Are you a relative, by any chance?
