Adam Dixon
Died 30th September 1849
Above: Adams Burial Record
Adam Dixon was 75 years old when he died from cholera, on 30th September 1849. Twelve other victims died on that day, making it one of the worst.
Adam was born about 1774, and we found his baptism in St. Michael’s Church Iderton on 3rd July 1774. His father was James Dixon. No other baptisms took place around that time in Iderton, so the family probably moved house after that time.
This is the total of what we know for sure. On the 1841 census there was an Adam Dixon of about the right age, but we cannot be certain that this was the Adam who died in the Cholera outbreak.
Research on the 136 dead has been carried out by the Alnwick Branch of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society.
