Grove House

Numbers 4 and 6 Howick Street  consists of Grove House and also includes No 17 Green Batt.
These buildings predated Howick St and were originally accessible from Green Batt.
This early C19 Grove Cottage and sundry tenements were refronted to south in circa 1831. Two storeys. South front has 4 windows. Ashlar with moulded eaves cornice. Slate roof with coped verges and 3 brick chimneys. Glazing bar sash windows. Two 3-light bays on ground floor flanking small portico with slender columns to bayed fascia. Glazed door with traceried fan in rectangular light above. Bracketted street lamp on south-east corner. The circa 1831 conversion involved blocking windows at rear and on No 4. No 4 forms a one window extension with a blocked stable arch on ground floor and slate roofed stairs to 1st floor at side on No 17 Green Batt. The latter is gable end to Green Batt with a hipped gabled extension to the east and a shop window to Howick Street.
