Shrove Tuesday Bugle
Shrove Tuesday is the last day in the Christian calendar before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Hence Shrove Tuesday is a time of celebration and feasting in many parts of the world, although the exact form of celebration varies.
In Alnwick there is a long-held tradition of a football match between the two parishes of the town-although not one following the rules of the more gentemanly and well-mannered (!) sport of Association Football.
As well as displaying this ancient bugle often played at the match the Museum has also commisioned a film of the Shrove Tuesday match which can be purchased from the museum shop.
