For hundreds of years effectively a “No Man’s Land” between the English and Scottish kingdoms, it was no place for the faint-hearted.
Fortunately there is little to fear from the “Border Reivers” nowadays-leaving you free to enjoy some of the most dramatic and concentrated scenery in the country. Within less than an hour you can enjoy both sandy beaches and rocky shores and take in some spectacular upland scenery.
Bailiffgate Museum is an ideal way to begin to get to know this area.
