Service History:
Enlisted on 23 January, 1917, at Alnwick, Northumberland.

Served with the Expeditionary Force in France from 29 May, 1917. Renton was killed in action at Bullecourt 20 November following.

His Sergeant-Major wrote: 'He was so well liked in his platoon.' A comrade wrote: 'Of all the men I have met in the Rugely Camp, I had a deeper regard for your son than any other.'

Background:
Born 3 September, 1887, at Luddick, Northumberland, the son of Isaac Renton, of Tosson Tower, Rothbury, Northumberland (Farmer), by his wife, Jane, daughter of the late John Renton, Higham Dykes.

Educated at Whorlton & Capheaton, near Ponteland, Northumberland.

Pre-enlistment occupation: Employed as a Shepherd on his father's farm.
