North Northumberland Genealogy Group will be holding a zoom talk on Sat 20 Feb 2021 at 10 am of special interest to anyone who knows Shilbottle. Colin Gough is researching the history of that village and will be speaking on Church and Commmunity in Shilbottle. We are opening talks up to the public during lockdown. Email rowan2010@hotmail.co.uk for details of how to access free of charge. You will be most welcome!
A new group has been set up for people interested in exploring their own family history and the heritage of North Northumberland. The North Northumberland Genealogy Group held its inaugural meeting on 19 January in Belford and will meet monthly excluding summer months. Amongst the members are some whose ancestry is firmly rooted in North Northumberland and others whose origins lie elsewhere but have now settled in this area.
The programme was launched with a talk by Mike Fraser of Berwick on John Mackay Wilson, writer of Tales of the Borders and Editor of the Berwick Advertiser. The group aims to keep up to date with developments in genealogy by looking at the various DNA tests on the market and what they can tell you.
Membership is available on an annual basis or you may come along for a single session. If you’d like to develop your skills in family history and have a love of the history and heritage of this wonderful part of the world, why not come along and see what this new group has to offer?
All meetings start at 10.00am (coffee available from 9.45) and are held at Bell View Resource Centre, 33 West St. Belford normally on the 3rd Saturday morning.
Everyone is welcome, whether a complete beginner or experienced! Some of our members have Northumbrian ancestry and others do not.
At Members’ Stories sessions we do not have an outside speaker but contribute our own stories, photos, etc (on a theme) from our own research. If you don’t wish to contribute you are welcome to come and listen.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NNFHS GROUP WILL NOW HOLD NO FURTHER PUBLIC MEETINGS AT PRESENT DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS.
