Service History:
Potts enlisted in the Northern Cyclist Battalion before being transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers.

He was killed on the first day of the 1917 Battles of Arras in the attack on Wancourt Ridge.

Background:
Known as Norman, Potts was born in 1896, at Whitley Bay, Northumberland, the third of five children of Joseph Potts (an Agricultural Labourer; from Bolam, Northumberland), by his wife, Elizabeth Potts (née Weir; a native of Felton).

About 1904 the family moved to West Thirston & took up residence at Ivy Cottage.
