Background:
Born about 1897 at Ramshope, Northumberland, the son of John (b. 1861; Scotland) & Hannah McKenzie (b. 1974; Elsdon, Northumberland), of 17, Castle Gate, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland.

The 1901 Census records McKenzie's father as being a Stone Mason, & him having an older sister & younger brother & sister.
