Service History:
Served for a time in the Northumberland Fusiliers. Joined the Reserve, & was called up on the outbreak of war in August 1914.

Served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from January 1916. Returned home in March 1917, & after a period of training at St. John's College, Oxford, was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant to the 17th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers in October 1917. Returned to France the following month, & died near Albert on 30 March 1918 from wounds received in action there on that day.

His Commanding Officer wrote:

'He was with me in the front line a few hours before he was hit, & I was struck with his courage & cheerfulness in a very trying situation.'

Background:
Born 28 December 1881, at Amble, Northumberland, the only son of Robert Green McInnes, by his late wife, Ellen (daughter of David Harrison).

Educated at Amble & Herriott Watt College, Edinburgh.

Before service in the Army, was in the Printing Trade.

He married at Amble, 22 May 1915, Eleanor (daughter of Thomas Spowart), of Marine Road, Amble.
