The UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 (available via Ancestry.co.uk) lists Maughan's regiment as Shropshire Light Infantry, which is incorrect - the actual register simply shows 'S. L. I.'.

Born & resident at Amble, Northumberland, the son of Robert & Margaret Maughan, of 14, Allan Road, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland.
The UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 records Maughan's mother, Margaret, as the sole legatee.
