Service History:
Enlisted at Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, on 7 August, 1915.

Formerly S/11178, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders).

Transferred to the HLI in October 1916. Served with th Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from that month, & died at No. 64 Casualty Clearing Station on 3 December 1917, of wounds received in action at Passchendaele the previous day.

Background:
Born on 30 December 1895, at Alnwick, Northumberland, the son Edward Marr, of Monmouth (Postmaster), by his wife, Annie Barbara (daughter of James Snaith), of 23, North Crescent, Hertford, Hertfordshire.

Educated at Duke's School, Alnwick.

'Soldiers DiedÂ…' records Marr as being resident at Monmouth, Monmouthshire while the CWGC website states he was a native of Alnwick.
