Service History:
Enlisted on 28 September 1914. Served with the Expeditionary Force in France from 21 November 1915, & was killed in action near Furnes, 2 October 1917.

His Commanding Officer wrote:

'He is a great loss to the company & also to this battalion, & as one of the older hands, the original members of the battalion, one had come to rely on him & trust him in any emergency or [with] difficult work that had to be done.'

A comrade wrote:

'We miss him very much, as he had been with us three years & his cheerful personality always made him a great favourite with his comrades. A brave soldier & one whom we all admired for his cooness in danger.'

Background:
Born on 24 June 1893, at Reston, Berwickshire, Scotland, the eldest son of David Mack, of High House, Alnwick, Northumberland, by his wife, Christina, daughter of Archibald Gray.

Educated at Rennington & Embleton, both in Northumberland.

Pre-war occupation: Clerk with North Eastern Railway Company.
