Service History:
Killed at La Boiselle on the first day of the 1916 Battles of the Somme.

Background:
Born about 1890, the son of William Lamb by his wife, Minnie Florence (née Axe), of Hotspur House, Castle Terrace, Warkworth, Northumberland.

Before the war Lamb was an Engineer's Pattern-maker. In 1911 he was boarding at a house in Wallsend-on-Tyne.

Lamb had 5 brothers - Henry (who married Alice); Thomas (became a Chemist at Forest Hall, Newcastle); James William; John; & Cyril (who was disabled) - & 2 sisters, Elinor Elizabeth (b. 19 July 1899; a Governess in India circa 1935; who married Parslow, who died in New Jersey, USA) & Minnie Florence (became a Teacher).

Cousin of 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Lamb (King's Own [Yorkshire Light Infantry], 4th Battalion Territorial Force) who was killed in action the previous day, 30 June 1916.

Lamb's father was a Brewer (in a family business based in Brewery Lane, Warkworth).

Probate was granted at Newcastle upon Tyne, on 22 November 1920, to James William Lamb, Brewer, for Effects valued at £387-17s-10d.
