Accidentally killed in an accident at Clipstone Camp, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire while heroically endeavouring to save himself & others from a bursting grenade during a bomb throwing practice.

Served only in the UK.

Background:
Born in 1896, at Warkworth, Northumberland, the son of the late Thomas Lamb by his wife, Phyllis (née Smith}, of Brewery Lane, Warkworth.

Before joining up, Lamb was a Pharmacist. In 1911 he was working in West Ealing, London.

Lamb's father & grandfather were Brewers (based in Brewery Lane).

Cousin of Lieutenant Walter Lamb (Northumberland Fusiliers, 22nd [Service] Battalion [3rd Tyneside Scottish]) who was killed in action on the following day, 1 July 1916.
