Service History:
De Ruvigny's...' records Gutherson's regimental service # as 6187.

He enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 10 July 1916, & served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from 27 September following.

Reported 'Missing' after fighting on the Somme near the Butte-de-Warlencourt, on 14 November 1916, & presumed to have been killed in action on or about that date.

Background:
Born on 18 November, 1882, at Thropton, Rothbury, Northumberland, the son of the late William Gutherson (Bootmaker) by his wife, Isabella, daughter of John Dixon.

Educated at Thropton.

Pre-war occupation: Rural Postman.

Gutherson married at Benwell Presbyterian Church, Newcastle upon Tyne, on 1 June 1910, Barbara, eldest daughter of John B. Laidler. They had three children: Annie (b. 2 July, 1911); William (b. 15 December 1912); & Catherine Forcy (b. 25 June, 1915).
