Enlisted South Shields, County Durham.
Background:
Born Glanton about 1885, the son of Mark (b. about 1855; a Cartman) & Ellen (also b. about 1855) Grey.
In 1891, the family were living at Brickyard House, Westoe, South Shields. Grey's siblings were: James (13), William (9) & Ethel (1).
In 1901 Grey was working as a BuilderÂ’s Carter. The family had moved to 45, Hyde Street, South Shields. His father was a Corporation Carter; both James & William were Blacksmith. There was a third brother, Mark (6), also in the household was his grandfather, James Grey, aged 74.
In 1907 Grey married Sarah Jane Thornborrow in South Shields district. In 1911 they were living at 37, Shakespeare Street, South Shields. Like his father, Grey was working as a Corporation Carter. He & his wife had a 3 years-old daughter, Ethel. At the time of his death, his family had moved to an adjoining house, 35, Shakespeare Street.
