Service History:
Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland, having volunteered for active service & joined the 7th Northumberland Fusiliers, on 13 August 1915.

Served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders. Wounded during operations on the Somme (15 September 1916), & invalided home. Returned to France in May 1917, when Forster transferred to the 22nd Battalion of his Regiment.

Taken prisoner near Bullecourt, 21 March 1918, & died, a prisoner of war, at Le Quesnoy, 15 September, following a cardiac arrest.

Background:
Born 21 January 1879, at Alnwick, the son of Mary Ann Forster (daughter of Edward & Ann Common) & the late Joseph Forster, of Walkergate, Alnwick.

Educated at the County Council School, Alnwick.

Married at St. James's Presbyterian Church, Alnwick, Martha Annie (daughter of Aaron Mills), of 12, Abbey Lands, Alnwick. They had three children: Mary (b. 2 August, 1906); Grace (b. 8 September, 1908); & Isabella (b. 16 October, 1910).
