Enlisted at Belford, Northumberland.
Formerly 7/1595, Northumberland Fusilers.
Landed in France on 21 April 1915, hence awarded the 1915 Star.
While serving under his former Regimental Service No. Fife was awarded a Military Medal - unfortunately, now, without further research it would not be easy to establish for what & when although an Ancestry.co.uk thread at ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/12712786/person/26676289516/facts?ssrc= would suggest it was awarded in 1916, possibly during the Somme offensive.
Background:
Born at Chatham, Northumberland - maybe, should be Chatton - the son of William & Mary Fife, of Twizell Mill, Belford, Northumberland.
