Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland.
Background:
Born about 1896, at Tranent, Haddingtonshire (now East Lothian), Scotland, the eldest son of William Dennison (b. about 1873, at Tranent; a Journeyman Tailor), by his wife, Mary (b. about 1876, at Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire), of 18, Edwin Street, Amble, Northumberland.
One of eight children. Dennison's siblings were: Annie (17; employed as a Servant); Martha (13; Assisting at home); Effie (12); John (9); William (6); Mary (4) & Esther (1). All of the children were born in Scotland, which suggests the family had only recently relocated to Northumberland.
In 1911, Dennison worked at a local colliery as a Pony Driver (Below Ground).
