Background:
Born on 6 September 1894, at Goswick House, Beal, Northumberland, the younger of two sons, both in the Army, of the late Major Lawrence Morley Crossman, J.P., a freeman of Berwick-upon-Tweed & Lord of the Manor of Holy Island, & Mrs. F. A. Morley Crossman, of Radcliffe House, Bamburgh, Northumberland.
Grandson of the late Major-General Sir William Crossman, K.C.M.G., Royal Engineers, sometime Member of Parliament for Portsmouth.
Educated at Lyndhurst, Wellington College, & the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
