Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland.
Went to France aboard the S.S. Invicta, & disembarked on 21 April 1915.
Coghill was wounded during the Battle of St. Julien, & was sent back to No. 7 Base Hospital at Boulogne (occupying the Hotel Christol).
Died of wounds received.

Born in 1891, the son of Joseph & Margarite Coghill, of 43, Stratford Road, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.
Native of Scotland.
Educated at Berwick British School.
Pre-enlistment occupation: District Passenger Agent for North Eastern Railway.
A blue granite memorial was erected in Coghill's memory in Heaton Cemetery by N.E.R. Passenger Department on behalf of the staff of the District Passenger Agents' Office at Newcastle.
