Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland.

Background:
Born in 1898 at North Sunderland, Northumberland, the son of William Chisam (b.1862 at Bermondsey, London), an Elementary Certificated School Master, & his wife Ann (b.1864 in Yorkshire).

Chisam had four older sisters, Mary & Edith (respectively b.1887 & 1889, both in Yorkshire), & Anne (b.1891) & Alma (b.1896) who were both born at North Sunderland, Northumberland. Two younger siblings were both born at Yetlington, Marjorie (b.1902) & Colin (b.1907).

In 1911 the family were living at Yetlington, Whittingham, Northumberland. William was now Headmaster of the Elementary School. Mary was no longer at home & Alma was preparing for the Civil Service.
