Service History:
Enlisted at Belford, Northumberland.
Formerly 9115, having enlisted in 1909 & served with the 2nd Battalion (14th Foot), The Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment). As a Regular Army soldier the 1911 Census records Chandler as serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment which was then stationed at Sabraon Barracks, Circular Road, Colchester, Essex.
Served with the Expeditionary Force in France from October 1914. Died of wounds received in action at Neuve Chapelle (10-13 March 1915).

Background:
Born on 17 March 1890 at St. Mary's, Bedford, the second son of Samuel (a Labourer) & Esther (née Saville; daughter of James Saville) Chandler, of 2, Holme Street, Bedford.
Educated at Ampthill Road Board School, Bedford.
N.B. The connection with Belford, Northumberland is unclear. Conceivably, Chandler's place of enlistment may have been recorded incorrectly &, perhaps, it should have been shown as Bedford, his birthplace.
