Service History:
Having enlisted as a Private, aged 16, Winton was swiftly promoted to Sergeant, & then commisioned.
He had taken part in the Battle of Loos in September 1915. He fell leading his men in an assault in the fierce fighting near Albert.

Born at Wooler, Northumberland, the son of John Thomas & Maria Winton who had moved to 13, King Street, Ramsgate, Kent by the time of their son's death.
