Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland.
Background:
Born in 1896, at Wooperton, Belford, Northumberland, the son of Henry Hall Turnbull (b.1871 at Stotfordhead, Cornhill) & Hannah (née Robison, b.1874 at Scremerston). The couple married at the end of 1895.
1901 - The family was living at Ingram with children Turnbull, Luke R. (b.1899) & infant Henry H. (b.1901). Turnbull's brothers were both born at Ingram. His father was a Farm Servant.
1911 - The family had moved to Ilderton. The household consisted of Henry (Farm Steward), Hannah, James (15) working as an Agricultural Labourer, Luke & Henry - both still at school - & there were, then, two sisters, Margaret (b.1906) & Mary (b.1909) both born at Ilderton.
