Service History:
Enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers in June 1915, at Morpeth, Northumberland, but was discharged on medical grounds within 16 days as 'not likely to become an efficient soldier'.

Trotter had, in any case, requested that he be transferred to the Army Service Corps (Remounts), the units of which were charged with the acquisition & management of horses for the Army.
