'Soldiers DiedÂ…' records Tate's place of birth as Bartowsford, Northumberland, however there's no such place &, maybe, he was born as Barrasford, Northumberland.
The family lived in St. Michael's Lane, Alnwick, Northumberland.
Four siblings of Tate are recorded in the 1911 Census: two brothers, George (18; b. at Chollerton, Northumberland; a Cabinet Maker) & James (13; also b. at Ponteland, Northumberland; still at school); & two sisters, Alice (11) & Ellen (9). Both sisters were born at Alnwick.
The UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 (available via Ancestry.co.uk) records Tate's mother & sole legatee as Mary (Tate).
One of two sons lost: see, also, James Tate (Regimental service #290820, Northumberland Fusiliers, 1/7th Battalion Territorial Force; Died 14 November 1916).
