Enlisted Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.
Background:
Born about 1889, at Bedlington, Northumberland, the son of John (b. about 1853; a Woodman) & Hannah Brewis (née Grieve; also b. about 1853).
In 1891, the family were living at Main Street, Bedlington. At the time, Brewis had three siblings, John Thomas (10), Ellenor (6) & Mary (1).
By 1901 the family had moved to Roseden, Ilderton & Hannah was widowed. John Thomas was a Woodman; Ellenor & another sibling, Alice (14) were Farm Workers; & there were 2 other siblings, James (8) & Isabella (6).
In 1911, Brewis, age 22, worked as a Carter & lived at Wooperton, Northumberland with his mother Hannah, brother James (a Horseman), & sister Isabella.
The UK, Army Register of Soldiers' Effects 1901-1929 (available via Ancestry.co.uk) gave his mother, Hannah, as sole legatee & noted his brother, John Thomas.
