Enlisted at Gateshead, County Durham.
Robert Stephenson went to an observation post on 13 November 1917 with two others & was never seen again. This is recorded in War Diaries held at the National Archives.

Background:
Born at Alnmouth, Northumberland, on 5 March 1888. The family were all from Boulmer.
Robert Stephenson left a wife, Gertrude, & two children - Amanda Sinton-Gerry's grandmother Edith, who was almost 6 years old when he died, & her brother William.
Gertrude never remarried.
