Service History:
Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland & trained at Seaton Sluice.

Formerly 5368, Northumberland Fusilers.

Probably, sent to the Western Front in early 1916. Robson was killed in action during very heavy fighting at Wancourt, which was captured from the Germans on 12 April 1917.

Background:
Known as Ernest, born in 1892, at Felton, Northumberland, the eldest of three children of Matthew Hugh Melrose Robson (known as Hugh), by his wife, Annie (née Sawyers).

Pre-enlistment occupation: Butcher. Robson's father owned Felton Butchers.

A first cousin of Private John Grey (Regimental service #257; Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Eastern Ontario Regiment; Killed in action 14 October 1915). Hugh was brother to Elizabeth B. Robson, mother of John Grey.
