Background:
Son of William & Jane Robertson, of Alnwick, Northumberland. George was chief Clerk in Lloyds Bank Alnwick prior to his promotion as manager in Bishop Auckland branch. He was a keen sportsman, interested in music and a member of the choir of Clayport Presbyterian Church where prayers were said for him. He was hit on the head by part ofa shell which burst in the trench his company was occupying. Death was instantaneous. His funeral was attended by his General as he was held in great esteem.
