Hardy’s Fly Making 1-Introduction
In the first part of the 20th century the manufacture of fishing tackle was a very important trade in Alnwick. The pre-eminent firm was Hardy Brothers. In the 1930s the firm published a number of guides to how their products were made. One of which was Your Flies in The Making.
Of particular interest is that the photographer for this publication was Dr Erich Salomon a world renowned photo journalist. Being Jewish he had fled Nazi Germany and lived in the Netherlands. Sadly he was captured by the Nazis after the invasion of the Netherlands and died in Auschwitz in 1944.
