Alnmouth 1906 Tourist Guide – Getting here by Rail

This amazingly comprehensive guide, published in 1906, positioned Alnmouth as a premier destination for the booming UK holiday market.  “Recently described by his Grace the Duke of Northumberland as the quietest and prettiest of the small watering places in the North of England”, Alnmouth benefitted from its proximity to (Bilton) rail station. There were also over 100 houses, apartments and B&B’s offering accommodation in this directory.

Offered by Bailiffgate Museum archives as part of its “Beside the Seaside” summer 2022 exhibition, these sample pages are a snapshot of a town most definitely on the up, and working hard to grow in reputation .
