Background:
Ancestry.co.uk searches reveal two men by the name of Robert Foreman born at Longhoughton, Northumberland at about the same time, one in 1883, the other in 1886.
Assuming the 1886 man was 6591 Foreman, he was the son of Thomas Foreman (b. about 1856; at Longhoughton; a Carter, on his own account, for local Whinstone Quarries), by his wife, Mary Ann (b. about 1856; at Alnwick, Northumberland).
Five siblings: John S. (b. about 1881; a Whinstone Stone-cutter); James (b. about 1883; a Whinstone stone-cutter); Joan (b. about 1888); George H. (b. about 1891); & William (b. about 1893).
Pre-enlistment occupation: Carter (Worker).
Pictured in the 25 December 1914 edition of the 'Alnwick & County Gazette', one of the first fatal casualty photographs to appear in the newspaper since the beginning of the war.
One of two sons lost: see, also, Private William Foreman (Regimental service #290681; Northumberland Fusiliers, 1/7th Battalion Territorial Force; Died 27 October 1917).
