Born about 1893, at Longhoughton, Northumberland, the youngest son of Thomas Foreman (b. about 1856; at Longhoughton; a Carter, on his own account, for local Whinstone Quarries), by his late wife, Mary Ann (b. about 1856; at Alnwick, Northumberland).
Five siblings: John S. (b. about 1881; a Whinstone Stone-cutter); James (b. about 1883; a Whinstone stone-cutter); William (b. about 1886; a Whinstone Stone Breaker); Joan (b. about 1888); & George Henry (b. about 1891; a Butcher).
Pre-enlistment occupation: Carter (Worker).
