Background:
Born about 1893 at Humshaugh, near Hexham, Northumberland, the eldest son of Adam Beattie (b. 1850 at Plashetts, Northumberland; in 1911, a Farm Bailiff), of Walwick Farm, Humshaugh, & his wife, Mary Ellen (Beattie; b. about 1847, at Wark, Northumberland).
Baptised on 16 July 1893.
In 1911, Beattie was a 16 years-old Farm Worker, as was his younger brother, Arthur (14). Another brother, George (13), was still as school.
