Service History:
Enlisted at Alnwick, Northumberland.
Joined the 5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers on 22 June, 1905, & re-enlisted on 2 August, 1908. He held several certificates for service.
On the outbreak of war Ballantyne was drafted to the 1st Battalion at the Front. He was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle.

Born on 28 February, 1886, at Dunston-on-Tyne, County Durham, the son of Thomas Ballantyne.
Educated at St. Dominic's School, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.
Ballantyne married at Newcastle, 6 June 1906, Margaret Nathans, daughter of C. H. Dagg, & they had 4 children - Thomas Hubert (b. 28 January, 1907); Sarah Elizabeth (b. 16 August, 1910); Edward (b. 3 November, 1912); & Margaret Alina (b. 12 December, 1912).
