Died of wounds received, as per Coldstream History Society website in relation to Wooler War Memorial but killed in action at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli per their entry for Kirknewton War Memorial.
Enlisted at Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.
Allan had enlisted into the 15th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers before transferring to the 8th Battalion for service in the Dardanelles.
Background:
Born in 1897 at Whittingham, Northumberland, the son of George & Jane Allan.
One of 2 sons lost: See, also, Private Thomas Dixon Allan (Regimental service #242686; York & Lancaster Regiment, 1/4th (Hallamshire) Battalion, Territorial Force; Died 26 April 1918).
The 1901 Census records Allan, aged 4, living with his parents at Whittingham Railway Crossing. His father was a Railway Platelayer & his mother attended the crossing gate.
Siblings in 1901 included George (14); Margaret Jane (12); & Thomas Dixon (10).
Before the war Allan worked for a Mr. Waters of Coldgate Mill, presumably as a Miller or General Labourer.
