Background:
Born about 1880 at Shilbottle, Northumberland, the son of Joseph & Isabella A. M. Thompson. Joseph was a Coal Miner, & he also had 5½ acres of land.
The UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 (available via Ancestry.co.uk) records Thompson's wife as Ann. The 1911 Census records them having 2 sons - Joseph Robert, aged 3, & Robert Huntly, aged 11 months.
Like his father, Thompson was a Coal Miner Hewer. The family lived at 6, Duke Street, Alnwick.
