Sisterson's British Army WW1 Pension Records are available via Ancestry.co.uk. There are 11 images, including his Short Service Attestation form.

Sisterson enlisted at Wooler, Northumberland, on 11 December 1915. He was immediately placed in the Army Reserve before being mobilised on 1 September 1916. He arrived the following day at the Guards Depot at Caterham, from where he was appointed to the Grenadier Guards on 12 September 1916.

He served with the BEF in France & Flanders from 11 August 1917, almost throughout with the Grenadier Guards' 4th Battalion. He transferred to the 3rd Battalion on 19 February 1919, shortly before returning to the UK, on 4 March 1919.

Sisterson was transferred to Section Z Army Reserve on demobilisation, on 16 October 1919.

Background:
Born about 1885 at Alnham, Northumberland, the third son of Adam Sisterson (b. 1839; at Thorneyburn, Northumberland; a Gamekeeper), by his wife, Annie (b.1851 at Tosson, Rothbury, Northumberland).

In 1891, the family was living at The Cottage, Sinhope (Linhope?), Ingram, Glendale, Northumberland, & they were still there in 1901.

Six siblings: Mary A. (b. 1872); John (b. 1877; at Bolton, Northumberland); Hannah (b. 1879); Adam (b. 1881); Robert (b.1887); & James (b. 1890). Like Sisterson, brother Adam & his younger siblings were born at Alnham.

On 28 March 1901, Sisterson married Elizabeth (also born about 1885, at Wooler, Northumberland).

Sisterson's father died at sometime before the 1911 Census, & his mother & youngest brother moved to Low Hedgeley.

The 1911 Census records Sisterson's occupation as Gamekeeper, at which time he & his wife had four sons - Adam (8); John (5); Ernest William (3); & Robert (1). They were living at Linhope, Powburn, Alnwick, where the family still was at the time of Sisterson's death, by which time the family had grown with the birth of a daughter, Jean.
