Background:
Born about 1896, at Lowick, Northumberland, the second son of Thomas & Margaret Jane Simpson, of Brunton, Lesbury, Northumberland.
The 1911 Census records the family living at Shawdon Hill, Glanton. Thomas & Margaret had six sons & two daughters.
Simpson was a Farm Labourer. His older brother, Robert James, was a Horseman on a farm, while a younger brother, Thomas Adam, was a Stable Boy. The other children were either attending school or not yet of school age in 1911.
