Died of wounds received.
Background:
Born about 1897, at Alnwick, the grandson of Thomas (b. about 1850, at Alnwick; a Labourer at a Whinstone Quarry) & Catherine (also b. about 1851) Hetherington. Census records do not make clear who his parents were.
In 1901 the family lived at Freeman's Hill, Alnwick Moor, &, in 1911, at Jubilee Cottage, Alnwick Moor (maybe, one & the same place).
Nephew of Private Henry Hetherington (Regimental service #2013; Northumberland Fusiliers, 1/7th Battalion, Territorial Force, 'F' Company; Killed in action 15 May 1915).
