Bailiffgate Museum – Responsible Visitor Charter

Walk to Work

The Bailiffgate Museum is committed to providing a first rate experience for all visitors whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities.

As a visitor or local resident, you can help too. We invite you to consider these eight points to help us keep our county beautiful for future generations:

1. Give the car a rest – leave the car behind, if only for a day. Walk, cycle or use public transport. There are a number of bus routes from Newcastle and Berwick which pass through Alnwick bus station, see http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/ for more details.

2. Shop local – use local products, they give you a flavour of the area and help support local communities. Please see what we have here, or try one of the many local shops in Alnwick. Market days are Thursday and Saturday and additional market information can be found at http://www.alnwickmarkets.co.uk/web/

3. Support Local Culture & Heritage – as well as visiting the museum, why not visit some of the county’s other important heritage buildings and attend local events and festivals. This way you are keeping the culture and heritage alive.

4. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – please say no to that extra plastic carrier bag. We offer paper bags here if you need a bag. Please also pass on any leaflets that you have finished with and/or recycle.

5. Be Water Wise – Please make sure you turn off the taps at the museum when you have finished with them. In your holiday accommodation, please turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and adhere to towel policies or other water saving initiatives.

6. Conserve Energy – always switch off lights and preserve heat by closing windows whenever you leave your hotel room.

7. Respect Nature – help us to look after the landscape and wildlife by not littering, guarding against fire and using footpaths and cycle-ways responsibly. Ensure you follow the Countryside Code.

8. Support Green Tourism – Look for the Green Tourism logo when booking accommodation or visiting attractions.
